cloudy clearcoat

This is my first post and I hope someone can help me out. I've been browsing the board for awhile now and have not found an answer to my problem. I own a white 2000 toyota celica and have been waxing It every month with a waxmaster buffer (now I recently purchased a pc, what a difference) and a terry cloth bonnet, I don't now what I was thinking. Anyways I wanted to tackle my hood which has a lot of micromarring from the bonnet and improper washing techniques and some minor pitting. I use my new pc and some FI-II rubbing compound because I thought mequiars #9 would not fix the problem I have. After using FI-II I used DACP I worked It in until It was dry and now I have this problem If I look at an angle under Halogen light It looks like little cotton balls about a quarter of a dime in diameter and all over the place. I Don't have access to a digital camera at the moment otherwise I would attach pics. Please can anyone help!

Welcome!

Were the "little cotton balls" there before you started buffing? Did you look?

It does not sound good. You were quite aggressive with your approach...

While the PC dual action buffer is a pretty darn 'safe' machine, the FI-II rubbing compound is VERY abrasive.

My wife's black 99 Civic has what sounds like a similar problem - her's is from acidic bird droppings...

I'd go to Radio Shack for their 30x microscope ($9.99) to see if it is ON or IN the paint... Don't buff for awhile :)

Sounds like residue to me.

DACP is very safe stuff to use, but leaves a horrible amount of residue if your not careful with it.

Try using a paint cleanser like AIO on the marks - if they come off, its the famous 'DACP welded on residue'.

Dont panic .......

You may have gone through the clear coat, but like Smoker said don't panic it may just be residue from the DACP. It may also be micro marring from the abrasives. Try using a finer polish like #9.

If that doesn't work you likely went through the clear.
