Clouded Clearcoat

I originally posted this in Autotopia University, but haven't gotten any response and thought I'd try here:

Total Newbie here. Have always detailed by hand and have been convinced that machining is safe, you get better results and more efficient. So I went ahead and bought PC DA and am still waiting for the various pads to arrive. In the meantime, here's my question:

I've got a 93 Mugello Red BMW M5. Overall the paint is in excellent condition. The paint is single stage with no clearcoat, however, the hood apparently was repainted (PO claims no knowledge  ) and clearcoated. I found this out when I put a bra on her, got caught in a rain storm and when I took it off the following day (I know I should have taken it off immediately) there were three spots underneath that clouded - not awful and not large, but definitely visible.

I tried baking it in the sun - no to very minor improvement. I also tried 3M swirl remover by hand - nothing.

Is it possible to get this out with the DA? Does anyone have any experience that they can share? What products you would recommend? Or am I looking at having it repainted (again). Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Autopia Dave.

Per forum rules, please do not double post. Your duplicate post has been removed.

Also, until you become an "Enthusiast Detailer" you may only start posts in AU. This post has been moved here. You may respond to exisitng threads anywhere.

If you give the search feature a shot you ought to find some answers you are looking for.

that's unfortunate though b/c it would seem like those with more experience in the other forums might be able to help and as of yet, no one has responded.

I did search the site and while there were several hits and threads dealing with clearcoat issues, many of which I read, none of them dealt with clouded clearcoat. Rather, they discussed cracks, peels, breaches and repair.

I guess I'll just wait and see . . . or post a lot and get 'promoted'!! :D

Post some pics of this problem .. Also is this a clear bra ( the 3M film type ) or one of those black covers ?

I think the PC will easily take care of that problem. Try a light cutting pad with the SMR, if not move up to something more aggresive. If Meguiars SMR can remove years of oxidation I don't see why it wouldn't be able to remove some few day old clouding. WholesaleMn.com has a nice kit for the Poorboys SSR line. Very easy to work with.
