Ok I had a really really close call today with some Cg Silk shine. I was about to spray some Silk shine on my tires but I guess I unscrew the nozzle too much and this stream on silk shine spray on to my tires and than bounds off and got me right next to the eye. At first I thought I got some in my eyes so I quickly walk over the hose and rise it out. I looked at the bottle and it said rise for 15 minutes and call a doctor. I didn't feel any thing wrong with my eye and the car was only have done... so being an idiot I just when back to cleaning my car lol Embarassed. Its been a good 40mins now and my eye feel fine I think it didn't get into the eye but right next to it. Should I be worry?

So heres my question has anything like this happen to you and how many of you wear eye protection while spraying something on your car? Whats a good eye protection to get?

I think you should go to the doctor anyways. It's best to be safe than sorry. I've had just water get into my eyes while washing. I'm glad nothing else has accidentally went into my eye. Maybe you should try a different technique for silk shine, like spraying it on the applicator and then apply it on the tires :) that way you won't have to worry about it bouncing anywhere near your face. For eye protection, I have these cheap lab glasses I used for Chemistry class. You can find those in home depot, lowe's, maybe wal mart, but I never looked there.

I always check the sprayer and if it's one of my bulk sprayers I tighten up and back off a 1/4 turn, OTC - see if it has a on/off/mist/stream deal.

I'm going to give you my opinion (THIS IS NOT A SUGGESTION). ALL instructions for getting something in your eye say to flush with water for 15 minutes, that's a standard instruction. If you called your dr. and said you got shampoo in your eye in the shower he would tell you to flush it with water for 15 minutes and if it was still irritated to come in to see him.

Silicone fluids (which is what is used in auto dressings) can sting your eyes, but they are pretty much harmless (silicone fluids also have food uses). Unless the bottle says "causes permanent eye damage" (like wheel cleaners containing acid do), I wouldn't worry about anything. Flush it out if it stings, and go on with your life.

DISCLAIMER: I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice. This is not a substitute for prevention (being careful and/or wearing eye protection). This is not advice to NOT flush your eyes or NOT go see a Dr. I do not know what the ingredients of Silk Shine are.

I agree with Setec, If it's still bothering you then go to the doctor, if not you should be OK.

Just a side note about a 3 weeks ago I sprayed carburetor cleaner into my eye and all I did was flush it with water and everything is fine.

Oh yeah I have gotten Megs Wheel Brightener in my eye and that freaking hurt. If I am using something like that where its a strong chemical I use gloves and glasses but that does not happen a whole heck of a lot.

Generally if I'm working with strong cleaners (Eagle One Tire/Wheel Cleaner is the strongest I've used), I wear some latex gloves and look away when I spray to avoid possibly getting into my eyes and to avoid breathing in the vapors.

Wow WB in your eyes that sucks big time, the thing I hate is how CG don't have thier msds info on thier site. Its been a good 12 hours now and I feel fine.

Thanks for all the quick replys.

Always better safe than sorry. Sounds like you handled it well.

My wife was unloading some boxes from our suv when we were moving. One box had a gallon of megs WB and of course the cap was broken and the bottle fell out of the back of the car and exploded all over her feet and legs. I heard it happen and realized what it was and grabbed the garden hose and went to town with water on her legs and feet. We called poision control and they said as long as we washed it with soap and water she would be fine, but if it were stonger concentration of acid it would have been bad. That was a bad scare for us.

I use eye protection when using a rotary and when using wheel acids. For $3-4 it's a cheap form of insurance, you only have one pair of eyes why take the risk?

When I used to do HR /safety work I was always amazed at how freaky accidents are. We would have guys (and this was heavy mfg) who were machine mechanics or machinists for years, and the one time they decided to take a short cut WHAM adios fingers, broken arms, 3rd degree burns, crushed bones you name it. It was that ONE time after 15 years of doing the same thing that got 'em. so the moral of the story you never know when it will happen so reduce your risk by using the proper equipment.

Say a rotary flings something into your eye and it imbeds in your lens, how much will the Dr visits cost you to fix that? A lot more than $3-4 bones that's for sure.

They have some very cool safety glasses now-a-days, even sunglasses that are safety glasses. check out lowes or home depot.

be safe!!!

Good advice sonyexec. On the other hand, those latex gloves aren't as comfortable to wear as safety glasses. When I wear those latex gloves, my hands can't sweat, and the insides of the gloves are all wet by the time I take them off...

^I know what you mean I haven't found a pair of gloves that I like. Its either the fits isn't right or your hands feel all sweaty while wearing the gloves. But the latex ones from car quest are the best feeling/fitting ones I've used. But I have rough skin on my hands so a lot of the stronger chemical don't bother me.
