ClearKote products & Zaino?

I have been reading some threads on the ClearKote products. Red moose and Moose compound. I would like to try these products but I am going back to using Zaino. Do they have a place for prep before Z usage or is there too many oils in the CK products? Would RM be an acceptable base for Z?

If I need to do an IP wipe down or use another product like AIO to help "clean up" the CK producs, I won't bother using them.

Wait for the Z cleanser out in a couple of weeks, from what I hear our prayers will be answered. I have used FP II, 3M SMR and #80.

I like # 80 the best,it works well with just a Z6 wipe down.

Sal said he wouldn't put Zaino directly over CK products (oils).

I haven't had the opportunity to try it out yet.

that I didn't know.. thanks for letting us know..

i was about to replace my SSR1 with VM/RM combo..

now I won't :xyxthumbs

I've been using Z2 over the top of VM for about 2 months now. I love VM filling ability since I've got 4 cars to maintain, including a coach black Prelude. Just not enough time to maintain a perfect finish that Z2 really needs to look it's best. I wash, VM and Z2 at least every other week so I can't say much for how long or how well th Z2 sticks over the VM, but a couple of weeks after applying the Z over the VM I've not noticed any pitfalls at all (unless you want to count the minor complaint I jokingly posted after my CRV got rear-ended yesterday). I'm a real fan of VM and loved it under Souveran but the carnuba just doesn't seem to last at all for me. I had laid off the Z2 for quite a while and tried about everthing else, NXT, Turtle's new stuff, etc, etc, but started using Z again when Z2 Pro came out. I used to be a Z distributor but turned it over to a friend who lives about 5 blocks from me, so availability of Zaino products is really good for me!

Thats my thoughts.........For my wifes car where I acnt always be so fussy. A product with some filling abilitys wouldn't bother me. I'm more concerned with the Z sticking properly more than duribility. I would apply more Z every few months anyhow.

FWIW, Sal told me that I shouldnt use SSR products before Zaino unless I was planning to wash with Dawn after the SSRs. It seems to me that after talking with Sal that there are a very few products that he would recommend using with Zaino. :nixweiss

Regardless of whether it would work fine or not, no company is going to suggest you use their competitor's products along side their's. Maybe you do really need to Dawn wash after the SSRs or maybe if you are told you have to make the extra effort to Dawn wash you will just stick within the system. :nixweiss

That being said, if Sal says to Dawn wash for best results, if you don't and have problems then you can't say you weren't warned. ;)

Sal has suggested several different polishes for me to try out...none of which had anything to do with Zaino (ie. 3M, Einszett, Malco, etc.).

Maybe but with his own polish about to come out, that may change! He didn't have anything prior to now that was part of the Zaino system.

Can't say that I blame him, I wouldn't like it if someone had me come out and detail most of their car but then had someone do the trim, tires and doorjams (for example).

Wouldn't something like AIO after whatever polish you use be enough of a prep for Zaino? If so, it wouldn't matter what you use prior to AIO.

Scott - I actually had a Zaino SMR product in my possession when the other polishes were recommended. Even with the new paint cleanser/swirl remover, it will only correct light to medium problems. Paint in poor condition will still need a more aggressive polish.

Jason - I have used AIO as a base for Zaino several times. Sal recommends at least a Z7 wash after AIO for optimum/predictable results.

:)

Agreed. Use Vanilla Moose for the light abrasive polishing properties only and then AIO to further clean up the paint and put down a nice oil-free base for Zaino. :)

Now I use AIO as a base for Z. I was looking at using VM to cover some imperfections. Woudn't AIO remove all of the VM and its hiding abilitys??

I think this would be fine since they are both made by Chemical Guys.

:p ;)

 The advantage the new Zaino SMR has though is once you do the deep polishing, you can go to the Z SMR then Z2 without additional washing.

Correct?

Even without the Z7 wash in between AIO and Z2, my brother's van is still beading as of today and I did the process in December. Slickness is pretty low now but it still looks really good and beads well. Other than tunnel washing, it has not been rewaxed or even QD-ed. Pretty good test of that combo if you ask me. :)

AIO would remove the "glaze" portion of VM, but VM does still have some polishing ability of its own, so by doing VM+AIO, it would essentially be like doing AIOx2.

I'd suggest doing a full polishing pass to get rid of your imperfections and skip trying to hide them, and then follow up with AIO as a prep.

I used the same method on my mom's and my girlfriend's vehicles, and they too are holding up really well. They do get the occassional Z6 QD though.

Do you still have any Z6 to try on your brother's car? I'll be in Dallas next week...I could try to bring you some Z8 to try out.

I have some Z6 left (I like it but the scent is a little strong for my tastes-so is S&G) but it is highly unlikely my brother would use it. His business is growing so fast he just doesn't have time to do more than run his van through at the local car wash.

If it is actually clean next time, I told him I'd go over it with Z2 Pro again, so yeah, some Z8 to try would be nice. :)
