I was using a swirl remover on the tank of my bike and i looked at the pad i was using and it was turning the color of my bike. Should there be a clearcoat and if there is, would this still happen. If there isnt, should i have one sprayed on and what is the procedure?

I can't tell your bike, but most have base-clear. Some BMW bikes from the past are enamels. Your bike in the pic is red, which often oxidizes. You'll know if there is a lightly rough feeling to the paint before you polish it, and a smooth feeling after. There will also be a little dusting.

what year is your zx9 , the clear coat is gone if you're getting color on your pads.
Be careful when polishing or swirl removing moto paint. Its alot thinner than cars . The manufacturers are always trying to save weight especially on sportbikes so the paint is thin.

So go easy with your 9 , maybe just by hand after you get the paint corrected to your liking.

i have the red zx6 2005 and love it .
