Clear Coat Peel

Hello,

I was wondering if you can repair this type of paint damage through correction or wet sanding. I'm trying to avoid having to have it re-painted if I can make it look better myself. I would be using a Makita rotary if correction via compounds/pads is an option. This is on the hood and roof mainly and I believe is pretty common for older Hondas. It's a 1995 Accord.

I suppose you could wetsand the peeling stuff off until you get to stable clear coat. Then use inexpensive rattlecan clear coat and spray it. Then when it dries wetsand it to feather the edges, or better yet clear the whole panel. But the rattlecan clear is much softer and susceptible to damage and is not gasoline resistant.
