Clear Coat or Not!?

I'm a fairly new member and have been hangin' in the shadows for a while, so I hope that this is the correct area for this thread.



Here's my issue...



I am buying a new Black Toyota Sequoia in a couple of months and have heard a rumor that Toyota DOES NOT use clear coat on some of their colors (Black being one).



Can anyone confirm this? If so, why not!?

It's easy enough to check. Get some polish and rub it onto a painted part of the car. If the basecoat color comes off on the rag, you don't have clearcoat. If no color comes off you have clearcoat.

I bought my wife a 2000 Toyota 4Runner Highlander. It definitely has a clear coat on it. Hope it helps..
