clear coat failure?

so this past weekend it was really nice up here in MI, so i decided to work on my cars.



i have a dodge conversion van sitting in my parents driveway, after my Jeep was done i decided to work on that.



I start to wash it with Meg's gold class car shampoo with a wash mitt. and mitt starts to to red(the van is painted red) its almost like the paint is coming off onto the mitt. any cheap way to fix this? if not cheap, what is the way to fix it?

I would guess that it's oxidized single stage paint, and a good polishing will remove that oxidation, ending the color transfer when washing.

I can't recall ever getting paint transfer during washing on SS paints. :nixweiss



And the only way to "fix" CC failure is to repaint the area.
 
If it's single stage paint then yes, some color transfer would be normal. Some people have ruined several pads working on ONE single stage paint job.
 
Sometimes the paint will wash out of the pads with no problems. Just make sure to wash your pad(s) right after you finish, before a stain can set in. Or if you want red pads, don't worry about it.

Yep I did an old Porshce once and the red paint was just flying off of it.

Wash clay polish, glaze and wax/sealer it. The wax/sealer will help protect it becoming oxidized, polishing really helps too because the sun reflects off from it.

SS (single stage) really loves glaze brings the oils back into the paint, if you don't have a PC you can use a hand glaze.

Remember when you wash if you have to apply a lot of pressure to the wash mitt that is not good. When you wash a car you should apply little pressure as possible to the wash mitt. Get a vary soft wash mitt, gold class wash is good stuff.
 
You want the old dead paint to come off. As above go through a full detail wash, clay, polish, glaze, and wax or sealant.
