Clear bra & water spots

BILL-SD... any udpates? I'm about to order CG's Spot Remover and I wanted to get more information on your second attempt.

My wife left car near sprinklers and left some very harsh water spots. They have been baked on for at least a couple of weeks before I managed to wash my car but nothing seems to remove them. I too am concerned about the film and also my spots are on the bare hood too so I'm also concerned if this stuff will have any effect onthe clear coat.

You're going to have a tough time with this. The urethane clear coat is very susceptible to etching. I have tried pretty much everything without much success.

I might have to consider Zaino plastic cleaner and Megs Plastic-x. I have both products.

I have the same problem with those water spots on my clear bra. I tried an AIO with a white pad via PC, but it's still there. It's very minor so I left it alone since you can only see it from an angle in the sun. Other than that, the clear bra will be 4 years old next month.

There are two different clear bra derivatives- coated and uncoated. Most clear bra installers these days are using the former.

Might be pertinent to identify treatment and correction for each, as I sure they're polar opposites in that department. I doubt that plastic polishes/cleaners are the appropriate product for the coated films, but probably the right avenue for the uncoated.

My wife's car has a 3M Scotchgard film, and since it's one of the coated films, I treat it like the paint. However, I haven't had the need to do any correction on it as of yet, and when that time comes I might be a little confused as to how aggressive to get.

I believe that these products from 3M have fillers in them (hence the Light and Dark formulas). When I was using PlastX or Plexus things would only look good until I washed the car go back to the way it was before.

I just started using the 3M stuff (more out of desperation) cause I had some laying around and wanted to see if I could save the Clear Bra on my hood. After a initial test on a small spot I was so impressed I broke out a polishing pad and machine and did the whole piece.

Water spots were gone, micro marring and cloudiness (caused by using polishes w/abrasives in them) were gone too.

I follow the process up with a wax or sealant.

After washing (traditional or ONR) it still looks like I just polished it out. Has stayed that way for a couple of months now.

I've posted this before but I state it here in brief. The issue with maintaining a Clear Bra's is that the material is too soft for Plastic Polishes to be affective plus many contain some type of abrasive which will ruin the material. The same can be said for traditional polishes as well.

If there are fillers in these products so be it. It's working for me and I can move on.

As a 3M certified installer that's pretty much my recommendation.

This works better with topcoated films (like 3M, Venture Shield Ultra), but not as well with non-topcoated films (regular VentureShield). As always, keep it sealed with a synthetic dye-free wax (I recommend NXT to my customers).

Keep in mind the topcoat on this stuff is very thin. So don't polish it too often or too much or you won't have a topcoat anymore.
