Cleaning wheels....

Hoping someone can help...

I can polish and shine my paintwork until it looks better than the day it came out of the factory, but when it comes to alloy wheels I can't seem to keep them in good condition at all.

No matter how often I try to clean them, they seem to get pitted with brake dust, especially in the corner of spokes etc. I make sure they're cleaned at least once a week, if not more often. I put a coat of Klasse SG on them every now and then, but they still end up with the little black marks.

What am I doing wrong??? :(

I usually use car shampoo (Meguiars Gold Class) and water, unless they're especially bad, in which case I tend to use Meguiars Hot Wheels wheel cleaner. Should I be using something else?

~One man’s opinion / observations ~

I use P21S Wheel Cleaner (Gel) to initially clean them, then AIO and SG (every four / five months) the brake dust can then be hosed off

~ Hope this helps ~

Hi Andy,

What sort of car have you got?

A lot of people here have suggested switching to ceramic pads to prevent or reduce brake dust fallout, particularly with German cars.

I use a pressure washer (gasp!) on my wheels now as life's too short to spend an hour just cleaning wheels on the daily driver - did this on Sunday and drove 550-odd miles yesterday without incident.

(Tony if you're reading this I got home without that tyre bursting...)
