cleaning wax/lsp off of pads?....

how do I do it?

I have some pads with sealant and or waxes on them and they have been sitting a while and I don't know how to clean them.... water and standard "pad cleaner" does nothing for the lsp/wax (obviously works well on polishes)

I have heard of using mineral spirits?... how do I flush the product out afterwards so as not to leave any on the pad for my next job?

thanks

It depends on the sealants/waxes. Some products, like BLACKFIRE Wet Diamond, will stain pads and clog them slightly. This is because it is thin, water-based, and designed to penetrate the smallest microscopic pores in paint.

Generally, I was my wax/sealant pads the same as any other but keep them dedicated to particular products.

thx todd... yes I am talking about bf afpp and bf midnight sun carnuba (and optimum poliseal)

so then I should just use water/cg pad cleaner and I will keep the pads dedicated

thx

Have you tried washing them out in the sink with hot water and Dawn? I haven't found much that Dawn won't remove from a pad.

I use dawn power desolver works wonders spray the entire pad let sit for a few the. Workings the pads and rinse clean with warm or hot water... Make sure you rinse a few times really good..

Been using Snappy Clean for years on foam Pads, and it has always cleaned and rinsed my pads very well..
Its a powder that I mix with some hot water in a bucket, soak them awhile, then wash them by hand and/or use a brush, and they look and work great..

Since I dont use waxes ( no one wants them anymore), I dont have the challenge of trying to remove them from pads...

This product does work great removing Optimum Hyper Polish out of my pads too...

Good luck with this !

+1 I soak pads in a standard Dawn mix until ready to clean them and then use the Power Dissover--rinse well -- pads as good as new--even removes DG501.

thanks for the replies guys... I went back and used the cg pad cleaner with a light brush and HOT water and they came out great.... I will try dawn next time tho

I think the reason they didn't come out good the first time was that the product was still wet on the pads

IMO if you let the product dry on the pads before cleaning you will have a more difficult time getting them truely clean.

To clean LSP applicators I first soak them in Mineral Spirits, rinse, then wash in Snappy Pad Cleaner. They come out good as new!

i soak my pads/towels in a Dawn mixture & do not allow any product(s) to dry on them. when it's time to wash the pads I squeeze out whatever I can, mix up more Dawn & warm water and do more submerge squeeze squeeze take out & squeeze. do this 4 or 5 times & the pads are kinda sorta clean.

now dump that mixture out and make a new one and repeat the previously mentioned process, your pads should look good as new even with DG501.

I use down and hot water. Sometimes CG pad cleaner. I tend to use the same pad for only one product though so I don't get too concerned with the stains.
