Cleaning tire shine applicators.

What are you guys using to clean foam tire shine applicators? I have tried Dawn, Dawn Power Dissolver, and Krud Kutter, all with very poor results. What I use for tire dressing are actually foam dishwashing sponges that I get at the dollar store (three for a buck). I don't mind tossing them when they start to shred, but if they are just dirty...well, lets just say I'm cheap and leave it at that. I don't want to use something like Optimum Power Clean as it might cost almost as much per use as the applicator itself. :lol1:

Not something I'd ever pursue for the reason you mention: cost to do so is greater when adding time + supplies

You can buy the good applicators on eBay for short money, Dave.

My tire shine applicators never really get dirty, but the foam does eventually deteriorate on them. I use the cheap ones w/ the yellow backing. I have pulled the backing off the ones that have fallen apart then glued it to some much denser foam that I cut out of a gun case or something I threw away a couple of years ago. The dense foam from the gun case holds up much better.

If you use gels, a paint brush for application might not be a bad idea.
