Cleaning the Snow of your Vehicle

I have a two car garage with four cars and two boats....not all of it can fit!

Car Cover is bad idea...like Bill said..one morning you will wake up and your car cover and car will have become one :doh

I bought the OXO snow brush last winter. IMO it's the best thing I've tried. The bristles cause minimal marring when touching the paint. I try to remove all but about 1/4 inch of snow but will brush the paint at times.

I agree that snow flying off your car is dangerous and I hate it when the car in front of me has snow/ice flying off his car and onto mine.

Has anyone tried a leaf blower? I don't know that I would want to go through the hassle, but my grandfather has said he takes out his leaf blower if there is only a couple inches when he clears his driveway and says it works great. Since I've already got an extension cord by the garage door for Christmas lights, I may have to try it.

don't you all have garages? I have a two car garage in my townhouse.

My house is so old that even the driveway was an afterthought. Practically speaking, there's only room for one car in what we call the driveway and that one is currently broken down. My car gets parked on the street in front of the house. Hardly what I call ideal, but that's life.

My car had a full repaint just a few weeks ago but when I heard about the storm headed our way, I put 3 coats of 2180 on to provide a little protection. FK1 claims it's safe to use within a few days of a repaint, and given the option of trusting them vs no protection with all the salt on the roads, I opted for the protection.

I cleaned the snow off the windows only and drove to the Quarter car wash and blew off the rest of the snow on the car.

Just boil a big ol pot of water and then throw that onto your vehicle. Snow gone!

Works for me every winter. Can't beat the heat!
I use a pretty similar method.

Turn your car on and let it idle for 3-4 minutes with the ac/heater, radio, heated seats on as well (it'll help the engine heat up faster without revving it), which will get more heat to the interior faster, in turn heating up the body quicker. After the 3 or 4 minutes, Ill pour boiling hot water on the car. Then just lightly brush any snow off I can.

To the guy who suggested using a heat gun...try standing outside for 20 minnutes at -20 C ( -4 F) ;) These are daily drivers if people are driving them in the winter. Caring about your car is one thing, but man, thats just anal.

I just let it blow off going down the road. I could care less if other people can see. Thats their problem not mine.. :2thumbs:

I guess one long tedious way is to remove the top layer of snow by whatever means, then use a heat gun or blow dryer to get rid of the icy snow thats on your actual paint. I haven't bothered touching mine yet, but thats because my engine is blown :)

I really hope that you are kidding...this would take forever....

I use MFs to get the snow off -- usually three or so -- on trhe paint, and Einszett Eistau de-icer on the glass (if there's any ice or buildup), it works great for me.

I just can't bring myself to use a snow brush on any of my cars.
