Cleaning the grille of an older pickup

Hi all,

We're working on restoring our '78 F250, and tomorrow I'm going to pull the grille shell off and start cleaning all the age off of it to make it look good again. It looks like there is heavy deposits of calcium or something all over the grille, it has a milky look to it. The grille isn't chrome, but its that polished sort of stuff. I used some Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish on it and that helped some, but that milky look is still on there, sort of like a haze. What can I do to take that junk off and make it look like new again? Is there any kind of household products that would work? Thanks for any help,

I am not completely familiar with that truck but I do believe that the grille is plastic, right? I would use a plastic polish rather than an aluminum one on it if that is the case.

I'm not familiar with it either. The actual grille IS plastic that is just painted, but the surround is that polished looking stuff. Maybe its plastic too with that coating over it, I'm not sure. But anything I try on it looks good for a few minutes and then its back hazed again :(
