Cleaning really dirty windows

I'm currently detailing my Mom's car. Eventually her car isn't one of the most well kept cars. Eventually after detailing her car, I noticed that i couldn't get the front windshield super clean. It seems to have like oxidzation or crud on it. You can notice it when you sprinkle water on it, its not smooth. I tried using 20/20 glass cleaner on it and using claybar on it. It still seems to leave those stain. Tried adding some Rainx to see if it will help out still same results.
 
A couple tips:



*Try washing the windshield with #0000 steel wool and a glass cleaner. The steel wool will remove light crud and help polish the glass a little. Follow up with your normal cleaning routine.



*Next step is a glass polish. Several companies offer them - Autoglym, Griots, Zaino, Detailers Pride, etc. This applies and removes like a wax. I use them all the time with great results. It may take a couple applications to get out all the embedded grime but it will work much better than a liquid glass cleaner.
 
That would be 0000 steel wool, not the stuff you use on your kitchen pans :)



What year and type of car is it? Newer cars can come with a protective layer on the windshield that could be damaged by the 0000 steel wool.



I'd try vinegar with newspaper on the exterior glass first.
 
I used a thin solution of Bon Ami and a celluose sponge to clear the grunge deposited by a Pecan tree over the course of several years. Followed with 20/20 and a MF towel.
 
ACE Hardware sells an item called Glass Wax! It is in a pink can and the solution is pink! Great product and inexpensive!
