Cleaning Painted Areas were you cant use water

What product should I use to clean painted areas where I can't use water, like the door sill, pillars, inside trunk are?

Thanks,

Why can't you use water in those areas?

I'm assuming you are talking about door/trunk jambs. If they are nasty I will degrease and hose them out, then follow with ONR. If they aren't too bad, I will skip the degreaser and just use ONR.

Yah, door and trunk jambs, that is what I am referring to. What does ONR stand for?

I quit using ONR on those surfaces after I got some marring, but hey...that's just me. It *is* a nice way to go if you have good luck with the stuff.

I use BHBs and regular carwash solution, sometimes rinsing with the BHBs and plain water, other times not rinsing at all. Or, I leave the doors/trunk slightly ajar and carefully spray water around the edges to rinse things out. I give those areas a little spritz of QD before I dry them, and that takes care of any residual shampoo. A little water in there never seems to hurt anything.

I am thinking of getting the Menzerna polishes, and was also thinking of getting the Menzerna Top Inspection Spray. Could I use this for cleaning the door/trunk jambs? What about for keeping in my trunk for cleaning those bird bombs ASAP?

Or would the ONR be better for cleaning the bird bombs? Would a APC (like Poorboy's World Bio APC & Degreaser) strip the LSP if used to clean the bird bombs?

While I've never used the Menzeran stuff, I would expect the ONR (mixed to QD-strength) to work better on the bird-bombs.

I'd expect any APC to be hard on your LSP and wouldn't it require rinsing?

I typically use ONR QD or an APC if I'm not concerned about the durability of any residual LSP. Just spray and wipe with a brush or MF

Yea I use ONR at QD and spray it really good in all those areas and let it soak in for a few minutes than come back and wipe it down and use a spray wax it give it some "protection" That is for areas that are not too dirty or grimey.

For areas that are very dirty and neglected I will first spray an APC on it and let it soak in then when the area is still wet with APC spray heavily with ONR at QD strength and mix it up with a paint bush or BHB and let that soak for a few minutes than come back wipe and quick wax that area.

Those two methods have worked great for me on any area no matter how bad of condition it is in.

What ratio of ONR to water do you use for QD-strength?

Any options on Poorboy's World Spray & Wipe for a bird-bomb cleaner? Same as using ONR at QD-strength?

I am think of getting a APC/Degreaser for the wheel wells. I am thinking when I remove my wheels for cleaning it would be nice to clean the inside of the wheel well. Thinking of getting either;

- Poorboy's World Bio APC & Degreaser, or

- P21S Total Auto Wash

Thoughts? I would then finish the plastic with 303.

I mix it a little stronger than whatever the label recommends. Sorry I can't say what that is for certain, but I've only mixed it up a few times as I don't use ONR that much.

Sorry, no idea :nixweiss I somehow thing of ONR as being a better cleaner than most QDs, though FK146 is made to do a bit of extra cleaning. Griot's/Adam's waterless washes might work too, but I've never tried them.

While I do like TAW and usually use EFHI, I bet most any APC would work fine, and TAW is pricey. Good stuff though.

I use APCs instead of degreasers most of the time as the APCs are generally more "soapy" than some of the degreasers I've tried and that works better for me when doing this.

I just dilute my APCs by eye too..see, I'm really, uhm...careless perhaps?...about how I do this sort of thing but it still works fine.

303 works well but you have to watch that you don't wash it off right away the next time you wash the wells! I'd do subsequent cleanings with a sorta-strong shampoo mix.

See how things go. I often use Autoglym's Bumper Care instead of products like 303 because it gives a little extra cleaning and lasts longer IME.
