Cleaning Maguire's cutting pads?

I'm going over the car with SSR 3 + a maguire's maroon cutting pad and am wondering how folks clean this pad. I've noticed a small amount of caking on the pad and have so far just followed the packaging's recommendation to clean it with a plastic bristled brush.



I'm new with this pad and don't want to foul up since I'll be using it to do a pass over the whole car. How do you care for and clean these pads?

I always use a touch of dawn detergent on the pad, work it in real good, and give it a good rinse and let it air dry, pad side down.

Is this necessary, *** does SSR have in it? All compounds and polishes I've ever used (unless they're loaded with silicone) are easily removed with dawn. Except, what kind of product besides an LSP would be used with a maroon pad that would have this kind of silicone or whatever junk in it...?

My CCS pads aren't affected by dawn, but my megs ones are, and they WILL lose their lamination. Cheap.



Use some gentle soap and one of those little round plastic bristled brush in warm water.

bucket....APC...1/4 gallon water....pad goes in face down....give it about 5 minutes to really soak up, then rinse it out = good as new



that is how I used to clean all my pads while on the site, now I just stocked up and have plenty to where I can just grab a new one

if regular dishwashing detergent doesn't clean them thoroughly, i use DPD (it doesn't get much easier cleaning them with this). it also depends on the pad as well, i find some are easier to clean than others...
