Cleaning Exterior Rubber Molding

I couple of months I had my car professionally detailed to remove paint overspray damage. He clayed, polished and waxed it. Awesome results. However, there is still some dried white compound in various crevices of the car, such as the cracks between the door handle and some streaks on the rubber molding around the sunroof and rear window. I assuming this white stuff is dried compound or polish. I can remove it from the painted areas if I use my fingernail, but it won't come off the rubber molding when I wash it with car soap or rub it with a damp cloth.



QUESTION: What's the appropriate way to remove this dried stuff from the rubber molding? Is 303 Protectant suitable?

There was a fairly recent thread (maybe 2 weeks?) that suggested bug and tar remover.



Until the database is fixed though, good luck finding it. :rolleyes:
 
Mineral spirits then 3M adhesive remover. Last resort lacquer thinner. Do not get lacquer thinner on the paint. Lacquer thinner will damage your clear coat.



DO NOT GET LACQUER THINNER ON YOUR PAINT!
 
I think another forum member had really good results with a white gum eraser. I have heard of others who have also tried peanut butter. Hope it helps..
 
I would second the use of the white eraser (Magic Rub-type). I use it exclusively on my 02 Sport Trac and have found it works wonders on both the black and gray trim areas.



I guess the other thing to consider is using a wax that won't leave the staining on the trim (I'm using Megs #20) - time to pick up some s100...
