cleaning dashboard

i have a 2001 acura integra and have some "spots" on the dashboard.



when i clean the dash, i use a damp absorber to wipe away all of the dirt and dust. occasionally, i'll apply some vinylex protectant for some uv protection and cleaning.



however, since the last time i applied the vinylex, i mistakenly dripped the vinylex on the dash and now there are "spots" on the dash that don't seem to want to come out. i tried wiping the area down again with a damp absorber but the spots are stubborn.



does anyone have any tips to get rid of these spots? the rest of the dash is nice, but these spots are bugging me.

I personally have never worked with Vinylex but from what you are describing it seems as though the stuff has stained or discolored the areas where it dripped.



Try cleaning the area with a solution of Woolite and water at 6:1 ratio (6 ounces of water to one ounce of Woolite), place it in a spray bottle and clean the area real good and then re-apply the dressing of your choice.



I pretty much only clean my interiors and rarely dress them and if I do dress them I always use a water based dressing, like Best Dressed or if a client requests a bit more sheen I'll use Klasse vinyl conditioner.

i'm hoping that the spots are not areas where the sun didn't damage the dash and more from excess solution.

The Woolite is a good suggestion. It works well on leather, too.



Have you tried going over the dash again with the Vinylex? I'm thinking the spots may be just areas that are slightly glossier than the rest due to uneven application. If you go over the whole thing, perhaps the entire dash would gain an even shine.

it's been a while since my first post here in the thread...



i went back over the dash with vinylex but the spots still wouldn't come out.



i took a spray bottle of diluted woolite/water (1:6 ratio like anthony suggested) and applied to the dash. i rubbed it with a microfiber towel untill it left a light lather. then wiped off with a damp absorber. IT WORKED!



the trick is to apply first to the towel. turns out, i think when i first applied the vinylex, i let it drip on to the dash directly and it left spots.

I've always just use a mild solution of car wash and water to clean my dash. What's the advantage of useing woolite?
 
i suppose using any soap works well. but from what i understand, woolite is a very delicate and mild detergent. maybe using too strong of a soap will deteriorate the dash. :nixweiss



i guess diluting any soap with lots of water will do the trick.

Great to hear of your success!



Woolite is a very gentle yet highly effective cleaner an dit is designed to work for "hand washables" I don't know the exact science behind it but hey it works well:)

I used to get spot on my 99 Camaro plastic dash, I found out it was because the plastic wasnt clean nor absorbing the protectant.



I used soapy warm water and a rag to clean then the same rag with clean water to wipe the dash clean. When you apply the protectant it soaks right in.
