Cleaning CERAMIC?

I finally recieved my new custom exhaust pipes for my motorycycle... they are made of Ceramic and polished to ALMOST look like chrome. The name for these types of pipes are called Ceramikrome (for any of you that may have heard of it? was a first time for me lol)

My question is, what do i use to clean and protect my pipes?

The paper that came with them states:

Typical Maintence should only require washing with a mild soap and water. Occasional minor stains can be removed with a clean rag slightly damped (not wet or soaked) with gasoline and gental rubbing (do not scrub). ALSO TAKE CARE NOT TO ALLOW WAX TO CONTACT THE SURFACE OF THE PIPE as it can stain the pipe. MANY CAR WASH/CLEANERS contain waxes in them. Be sure to check the contents before allowing contact with the pipe.

BTW, does anyone sugguest a good car wash i can use that dosent have wax or cleaners in them to wash the rest of my bike? i just picked up NXT Car wash for my car... it dosent say it has any wax/cleaners in it... can i assume it's ok to use on the whole bike and if i splash some on the pipes they wont stain?

Thanks again all!

How about:

If doesn't have cleaners in it, it won't clean! :D

I'm sorry, I'm in a silly mood today. :bawling: :nervous: :grinno:

NXT should be fine.

ok smart guy lol.. i'm just worried about there being no "protection" on the pipes and something getting on them (like melted shoe... which i know i will eventually get on there) and not being able to get it off... you know what i mean?

btw, I've got this other car wash that i've been using for... a long LONG time (and i still have 1.2 the jug) just sitting around (i use the NXT for the car now, ALL THE TIME).

It's the Turtle Wax Car Wash, it's a large orange container, you may have seen it before i'm sure... but it does say there is wax additives in it.

NXT dosent, so i can only assume it should be ok to work with. But if it dosent i dont have to have to resort to this to clean the stains: :buffing:

(love that smiley!)

I think 'wax' in a car wash is a bit of a grey area. Even many "Wash and Wax" car shampoos don't actually contain wax, unless they specifically state 'Carnauba'.

Most will contain some sort of silicone-based ingredient (I suspect) that's left behind to "give it that just waxed look".

I'd imagine NXT is one of those...in fact most state something similar. Of all my car shampoos, the only one that makes no mention of improving waxed appearance is TW Platinum.

Ceramikrome or Cermakrome? I know Cermakrome, but I don't recognize Ceramikrome.

In any case, it's just semi-high temp powder coat. Tends to discolor and grey from high heat, like that produced by motorcycle engines, especially within the first food from the cylinder head.

I don't know of any high temp wax or sealer. That said, I honestly don't know what they will do at high temp, besides possibly burn off. I used to wax my pipes with whatever I was waxing the paint with, and never had a problem, but that was on chrome. Since they were chrome, they always blued.

Melted shoes are the bane of bike pipes. Shields work well at keeping them off.

heres a bit more from that paper i got with the pipes... the place that sells them (but does not make them, them selves) call them Ceramikrome. On this paper I dont see any mention of Ceramikrome or Cermakrome.... all it says is Ceramic.

The Ceramic coating on the pipe is tested and proven to be reliable at a constant running temprature of 1600 degrees F, and unsustainted tempratures of 2000 degrees F.

so yeah, getting that hot... maybe NOTHING will work on it to "protect" them. :(
