Cleaning a set of Borrani Wheels

I asked the owner before I started working on them, how perfect do you want these....10 being perfect. He said, "Five."

He just wanted them cleaned up a bit to sell. Thanks for the info, Greg. Hope you're well.

I was just thinking that you "might" be able to use some Royal purple jelly which is a type of rust remover, bondo makes a version of this and remove the rust also. Swab it on with a Qtip and rise off after the rust fades. If you then put some sealant on the spokes you might keep them looking better longer. If these wheels are going on a trailer/garage queen it should work well.

I had some Borranis I worked on and I got a wool LC ball that I attched to a drill and polished away, you will be amazed at how much Oxidation will come off.

cheers,

GREG

Well then you easily reached the 5 mark, well done. Too bad he was not willing to allow you to go towards an 8 or more, his return would have been huge.

Cheers,

GREG

Thanks, Greg. It would have been a challenge (As well as fun) for sure. He was very please with how well they turned out. He told me, had he been keeping them for himself, he would've have wanted them perfected.

Thanks again for your help.

They are selling a set of those on ebay, same model #. They are missing the knock-offs and it also says one is missing a spoke and one has a flat spot. Starting bid is 1750 with free shipping. Figured your customer might appreciate a couple good back up wheels if he ever needs them, even if you only get 2 good ones. Would post the link but I remember something about you have to have 10 post first.

I used the 2 part wire wheel cleaner a few years back on my Borranis. one acid and one a neutralizer. Today I have 6 rusty wheels worth zilch. From what I see in the Borrani site I screwed up about $7,000.00 worth of wheels..be VERY careful. They appear to be chrome over steel (or some other mixture.

The car is a 1973 excalibur

I've done a few rims like that on an Excalliber as well as a few vintage F cars.

I would thoroughly wash and rinse then go back over with #0000 steel wool and scrub the lips down well and really get into it with those spokes and the steel wool should clean up those rusty looking spokes.

After the #0000 steel wool, I'd hit it again with some Blue Magic metal polish and a mothers power ball and make it sparkle.

Wipe it all down and you should be good.
