Cleaner Wax opinions?

Is a cleaner wax just what it says..polish and wax in one? If so, is it be as effective as a doing each seperately? I have always done each step seperate, so I am confused on when this product would be used.

Thanks!

I do believe that a cleaner wax does each thing in one step BUT it is not as effective as if you were to polish and wax in two different steps... Its just a one step process if you dont have to time... IMHO

When you add more polishing ability to a one step the wax effect is less. When you add more wax the polishing effect is less. Cleaner wax are made for an easy one step process. It will not give the results as good as seperate. For a lot of the people that is fine. They work great on daily driver that can get lots of crud on them, but don't usually last as long as a seperate wax. IMO if you want to save time use a wax with very light cleaner like Reflections or NXT and you only have to polish once or twice a year. I think the best shine and protection you can get in one is Klasse AIO. You could always wait for next weeks wash to apply something like P21S.

It's half as much work, but you have to do it twice as often to get the same results.

On the non-vanity cars, I usually use cleaner wax year 'round. Clay and cleaner wax is a hard combination to beat if you're looking for for maintenance and protection only.

As KGB pointed out regarding the PwC, sometimes the lines get blurry on the topic of "cleaner waxes".

1Z (consumer) Ultra, Paint, and Metallic polishes (let alone Wax Polish Soft) contain enough wax that they are "cleaner waxes", but they do a great job. VM could easily be considered a cleaner wax, and AIO and SRP are sorta synthetic versions of it too.

And as Mosca pointed out, you can get pretty good results with even OTC cleaner waxes. Back in the day, the combo of a cleaner wax topped with a "straight" wax was a pretty good way to go for a quick detail job, and it still works well today; note how popular AIO + [some carnauba wax] is.

I like cleaner waxes. I feel that if you wax every 2 months , that you will get some embeded dirt in the paint that a cleaner wax will remove. You can always follow with a straight wax if you want.
