Claying..

I usually do the whole car on my twice annual claying. If you wanted to maintain it in between full details, you can clay the areas which are getting more exposure to the elements like the bottom panels and the front fenders, as well as the rear bumpers and near the wheels at the bottom.



You might want to stick with the twice yearly or once yearly claying if you don't want to go overboard! ;)
 
I clay somewhat monthly, but normally just spot claying. I'll do the hood, maybe the fenders, all depending on when the last time that panel had been done.



But when I do complete details (I guess twice a year) I'll clay the whole car, even if I clayed the hood the week prior.
 
Should claying follow the same procedure when polishing? What I mean is that should I only work on a 2' x 2' area at a time or entire panels at a time?
 
Generally, I clay twice year. I drive a SUV and I find that the rear hatch seems to pick-up contaminants that get a solid grip on the paint so I end up spot claying that about four times a year.
 
I clay the whole car before each full detail, which is usually twice a year. Sometimes I'll clay bad areas like behind the wheels more often than that.
 
sorry to hi-jack the thread but ialso have a question about claying. is it ok to skip claying if theres very little contaminates on the paint (clayed a little more than a month ago) and go straight to polishing with a PC?

If it's only been a month and your paint has been protected for that time, you're fine to skip the claying. You might want to spot-clay if you have some bad spots.
 
ok tahts great. there wont be any danger of marring if polished the car which has some minor contaminations (just incase i missed a spot).
