Claying Source

Anyone know a contact to purchase clay in quantities. Places like Source Chem Inc and Joybond that make all the clay for Sonus and ClayMagic ?

Another topic I want to know more about... Ive always wondered about buying clay in bulk. I bought a few bars of Pinnacle Poly Clay (yellow) in a sort of bulk purchase and I love it. Cant seem to find the same deal though.

Although Danase has Sonus grey block 6 100g bars for $50.

The clay world is dog eat dog world, very secretive and lucurative at the same time, importers try to out sell and out price their distributors and merchants, just ask some of the merchants here at Autopia and they will say the same.

If they sell at $9.00 for a 100g bar, they proberly get it for under $2 a bar !

there was a website that was all yellow and what not....had clay for a good price, expecially when you bought a lot of it....I cant remember the name of it, but maybe someone else might....came out to like 8 bucks a bar or something like that

Clay was one thing I couldn't find at any decent price for resale back when I was stocking up. I dug pretty deep into all the detailing product sources and cut out all the middle guys (cuz there are a bunch! people will say they are the source, but they aren't). I got a lot of stuff straight from the source which in most cases are not who you would think it was. But clay... I never figured that one out. LOL I know CGs buys theirs, I've been told, but they wont say where from. I wonder who the actual sources are... I bet there are only one or two, producing all the clays, just in different colors, textures, etc. Probably not the only thing they make either, hell, they might not even be a company involved with detailing supplies otherwise. lol

Hey DavidB, where do you get yours from? lol

PM me if you would like to get in direct contact with a mayor Auto Magic vendor that sells clay in bulk. I'll bet he'd do a group purchase. They test out prototype products for Auto Magic and have an inside source to the main vein. I have a friend that travels around the world doing overspray removal jobs and buys clays 200-300 bars(monthly) at a time from him.

I contacted Auto Magic and they havent replied to me yet, but even still they are not the source. Auto Magic buys their clay from Jaybond that last time I heard.

$8/bar is not cheap in my books. They sell 100g with clay lube for $6.99 retail !

All is indeed manufactured by AutoWax Company, I suggest you do a google on the lawsuits filed for patent infringement by AW company. Their legal department was very smart and went after smaller companies first, now they are the only company that can legally produce and sell clay. All other companies get their clay from AWCompany now.

DON'T e-mail Auto Magic(if you did). People have experienced problems with them replying. If you need to contact them, call them on the phone. $8/bar is not cheap? How much are expecting to pay?

I think this is true to the best of my knowledge. Can someone prove otherwise? Their website explains their lawsuit.

240 grams for $40.50? Yikes, that's silly expensive. Our store sells 207g bars for $19.95 (Purple/Gray) and the 140g yellow bars for $18.

For $40.50 are you getting anything else like a pad and some lube?

I was just looking at the patent. It was filed by Joybond. So either they are the manufacturer, or were bought by AutoWax.

Auto Wax Co. (now owned by Illinois Tool Works Inc.) owns the US patent rights for detailing clay. Presumably, they recognized a good thing and purchased the rights from Joybond.

So AWC controls any and all clay sold here in the US. You can go and buy a boatload of clay direct from Joybond or Shinyo Chemical if you want but if you do or even if you make it yourself from scratch you have to work a license deal with Auto Wax and pay them a cut in order to sell it here.
