Claying over bird crap and insects.....

After washing my car and removing everything (wax, et al.), should I use bug & tar remover on the gunk that just won't come off? Or could I just clay over it? Bear with me, I'm new to all this stuff.:D

Bugs will come off with the clay. Sap and tar - better to use the chemical first.

Bird crap is loaded with grit - so I would try to use to use the gentlest method/least direct rubbing you can to get it off - flood with hot water and gently agitate with a brush, perhaps. Last thing you want to do is wipe over it with clay or a towel and drag that stuff across your paint.

Bird crap is also loaded with acids. If it didn't come off with a thorough wash, chances are it is etched into your paint/clearcoat and will require the use of an abrasive to level out after the bird crap is removed via carguy's excellent suggestions.
