Clayed my car and have SERIOUS problem!

Ugh!!



I used the PolyClay stuff from CMA. It works AMAZING. I did the entire car with it and I could feel the difference.



Anyway, on one particular spot of my hood, the claying produced a horrible, hazy effect that has somehow tarnished the paint. It isn't a scratch, and multiple claying over this spot did nothing to fix it.



I was using Eagle One Wet Wipe N Shine as lubricant, and used plenty. I did the rest of the car without a single problem!



What is this haze? Did I somehow scuff up the clearcoat? How can I fix it? For right now my multiple coats of SG is doing a good job of hiding it, but I want to get this fixed ASAP! Help! :(

Sorry that's as clear a photo as I could get. Around the lights you can see what looks like dust. Well, it's not dust, it's sparkling clean...it just has that haziness. And you cannot feel it with your hands either.
 
If that spot feels smooth, I would follow-up with a good polish by PC. Perhaps GEPC or VM. That should take care of the hazing.
 
I would hit it with some polish like he said, might need something stronger than GEPC or VM, maybe some DACP. I really don't know what could have produced that effect. It looks as if you hit that spot with some fine grit sandpaper or rubbing compound, certainly not clay. Did you check the clay for any large impurities that it could have picked up that really scratched or hazed the surface? That is pretty weird if you ask me.

Agreed... try some AIO or similar product on it. Good luck!
 
yeah that looks a lot like clay residue. it looks like that might have been your starting point after kneading the clay. try alcohol or aio.
 
Looks like clay residue, AIO should remove it. Might want to change the type of clay you use next time. I never have that problem with Mothers Clay Bar.
 
I am guessing it's nothing more than streaks from the clay. Polish doesnt seem to be strong enough. Try using PrepSol or a like product such as goo gone. Maybe even some alcohol might do the trick. If not, I would go to the store and try any compound the crap out of it. If it gets better than continue the compound. Finish off with some polish and a sealer. Do it ASAP so the stain doesnt have a chance to have a permanant effect on the paint.
 
I clayed my car this morning, using the clay magic red bar and i got the same result, i used menzerna intensive polish and menzerna final polish on thew whole car, and the scuffs went away.

I'm not suprised you got hazing using the Clay Magic red bar. The red bar is much more aggressive than the blue one. The red one is for paint that is in bad shape ie, paint over spray, major contamination from fall out, or the paint hasn't been clayed in like 10 years. Most people that use Clay Magic use the blue bar.
 
Yeah i used the mothers kit, because i had some overspray over the entire car, the mothers got about 90 percent of it off, but there were a half dozen or so stubborn dots on each panel that wouldn't budge, so i spot clayed with the red bar , i only got the marking when i really pushed on it. Only took me one scuff mark to relize it. when i glide the clay over the surface no marring occured. and the menzerna took care of any marks it left.
 
I'd try something a little stronger than Klasse AIO. I've tried to use Klasse AIO before on light swirls by hand and it doesn't even touch them. Go get something like Meguiar's #9.
 
Actually it didnt look like residue to me at all. Looks more like the clay enhanced an area where the paint was damaged. Does it look like its actually under the clear? Any sort of clay residue I have always taken care of with just a simple QD and MF.
