Claybar necessary for brand new paint?

Just got a new car last night. Paint has 60miles on it. Is claybar necessary before I go ahead with the wax/polish? Thanks.

Even though the car is brand new I would still clay the paint before waxing. The car likely sat on the dealer's lot for a while before you bought it. Even if you got it right off the truck, it was exposed to some pretty nasty stuff while shipping either on a truck or by boat.



If you stick your hand in a plastic bag like a zip lock and then run it over the paint you can actually feel the contaminants that clay would remove. Do that and if you don't feel anything you don't need to clay, but I would bet you'll feel something.

I agree. The real culprit is Rail Dust. It's semi-microscopic and likes to embed itself into the paint pores.



You will feel a noticible difference between clayed and unclayed surfaces on a brand new car.



Besides... it's FUN to clay, and it only takes about 15-20 minutes.

Also, I plan on doing Klasse AIO with p21s on this car. Does anyone else recommand anything else? It'll be with a PC as well. black onyx paint code 202...i dont think there is a clear coat over it. Thanks.

There are all kind and nature of things that get on the "new" car paint before you get your hands on it. Claybar is the best way, I know, to clean it up and start right :2thumbs:

I've clayed my car in the dead of winter, 60F and it went well, just wear a sweater so you don't catch a cold. I clayed my brand new MB and it was a huge improvement. Now that it's about 18 months old, the finish is still smoother than when new and that was the last time I clayed it because it really doesn't need it. Keep in mind the dust, bugs and bird poop that gets imbedded during it's shipment, specially on foreign made cars and then sits on an auxillary lot before it even gets prepped for sales and put on the main lot.

Hm...I just found out that my car was completely assembled on 11.9.05. How long do I have to wait until i can go about waxing/polishing the paint? Is the cure time period the same as getting a paint job besides from the facotry? 3months?

The newer paints they use do not need the long cure times that older cars required.

The factory paint is different stuff and is baked at high temps. As beabout said, you can wax right away.



But do clay it, any embedded ferous contamination will turn into "rust blooms" later. Better to clean such stuff off now.

Wife's car clocked only 500 kms since brand new (in some 50 days) I reserved a claybar for it alone in order to be sure the bar I use on my MPV would not mess the black of wife's baby.



Well I used the baggy test on the black baby three times and in all three including the very first (just 3 hours after delivery) the baggy told me to don the claybar... (Never forget to use your QD at the same time though)
