Clay too mild. Polish first?

I couldn't remove some contaminants that were baked on the front bumper's paint after being there for such a long time.



Claying removed very little. What do I do next?



I've read some posts where they actually polish the car first before they clay.



Any suggestions?
 
u can try more aggressive clay to remove contaminants. If u are still unable to remove , u could try polish it using more aggressive pad. then follow by less agreesive pad with less aggressive polish.
 
I actually tried using rubbing compound (:shocked) and rubbed the paint gently with my fingers and some of the contaminants came off.



Trouble is, there's too many of 'em! I may have to bite the bullet and do it all by hand (literally).



I don't have access to "more aggressive" clay.



Any other suggestions? I want to preserve my fingers!
 
What sort of contaminants?



I had the same trouble with a Camry several months ago. The owner hadnâ€â„¢t washed the car in 4 years and the front bumper was covered in bugs from highway travel. It was HORRIBLE. First I washed with Simple Green to loosen the shellac. I then tried a medium-abrasive body shop clay . . . the result was 60% better, but still far from perfect. I re-washed using straight vinegar, a soft toothbrush, and plastic razor blades. Better yet again, but not great. Finally, I dabbed areas with 3M Adhesive/Wax Remover and gently rubbed the debris free.
 
Maybe try a chemical paint cleaner instead of something abrasive. I'm only familiar with AIO and Pinnacle PCL (which is probably too mild) but there are others out there.



Maybe the new forumulation of Meg's #2. It's supposed to work by hand now, and at least the *old* #2 had strong chemical cleaners in it.
