hi guys,

I havent taken good care of my car for awhile since I am busy with school, so I have finally decided to give her a nice detailing job over spring break.

I have some tough dropping that probably have stained the paint of my car and the clay bar that I have isnt removing it.

What can I purchase and do to remove the stains and dropping?

Probably etched into the paint, it is very acidic. If its not too deep and you have access to a polisher, you can either get it out or at least minimize it.

if it is etched too deep would you have to sand? what grit to use? i have a hologram or silouette of a massive stain on my roof. it came with the car unfortunately. thanks.

....as Baker pointed out, success will largely depend on the severity of the damage. Also, you don’t need a polisher and IMO/IME small blemishes like this can be effectively addressed by hand. Here are two articles Mike Phillips wrote when he was with Meguiars (he is now with Autogeek). I think they illustrate the point that with a little effort (passion as Mike calls it), the average Joe can use an OTC product like Meg Ultimate Compound, Scratch-X, etc. to successfully remove or improve blemishes by hand.

Also, the rule of thumb is to use the least aggressive method necessary to get the job done. I would strongly suggest trying a product (like the ones mentioned above) before entertaining the idea of harsher methods like wetsanding.
