clay before sanding?

I have to cut and buff after the paint job that was just done on the car but is it necessary to clay before sanding with 2500-3000, or will a good wash be sufficient as long as its free of large particles of dirt?

I would try to get the paint as clean as possible to prevent RIDS during the sanding process. So yes I'd clay and decontaminate the paint first.

I also like the idea of claying before wetsanding especially after putting some miles on over the winter. I'd hate to have some sanding tracers because of a loosened contaminant that wasn't removed before hand.
