Medium is generally more then enough. If your car is several years old, and never been clayed, and your considering a thorough detail, Medium grade clay may just fit that bill......

The Sonus Ultra-Fine is so gentle that it won't remove an appreciable amount of LSP if used correctly. Sure is *too* gentle for true decontamination-style claying IMO. It's only good for cleanig [stuff] off your LSP, which is exactly what *I* want ;) Well, most of the time.

In what situation would someone need a heavy cut clay bar?

Overspray or other really tenacious contamination, where the risk of (micro)marring is less of a concern than getting the [stuff] off the paint.

Some have mentioned that Zaino's claybar was a re-packaged Mothers bar. The recent Zaino clay order I received was red and very rubbery compared (seemed very fine) to what I've seen from Mothers. Did they change their formulation or supplier?

I think they must have changed something because the Zaino clay I bought about 3 years ago was yellow. It unfortunately also seemed to split/crack a lot when I tried to refold it, but maybe that's just because it was old. I'm not sure. Hopefully, this new version will be better. It was nice getting two bars per order, though.
