clay bars....Round 9 million

Alright, I've been using the search function trying to figure out the best way to clay. From the reading it seems that using soapy water (w/clay magic blue) isn't bad and almost all the time there will be some residue to wash off.



My problem is I NEVER seem to have any residue (not that that is a bad thing), however my girls car still feels ruff after I'm done.



I guess what I'm trying to find out is, how much pressure are you guys using? And what constitutes as residue? Smears? Actual clay left on the surface?

Residue could be considered streaks from the clay. Kinda like trails of dirty water. That is easily cleaned off. Sometimes it could be little pieces of clay (depending on what kind you use). ClayMagic has never given me any problem.



I don't use much pressure at all. I just go over the same spot untill it is smooth feeling to me. If you are going over the spot over and over and its not getting smoother, then you could have a problem that clay isn't going to fix. It could be that you have some contamination on your paint that has pitted it and clay isn't going to fix it. Can you describe the problem in a little more detail?
 
Its not pitting, just looks/feels kinda like sand bonded to the surface.



Maybe, I'm not pressing hard enough and maybe I'm not going over it enough. When I clayed last time, I didn't sit there working an area (come to think about it I didn't even feel it after). I just went on the to the next step #9 and then #26.





I'll make a point of working the area next time...

Overspray (from any paint source) can feel that way too, and is harder to remove than the usual contaminants.
 
You may want to think about using a more aggressive clay if the ClayMagic Blue bar. They have a red one that is more aggressive. There is also a specific bar of clay made for overspray. I can't remember who makes it though.

That's not the jar of Meguiar's bodyshop Overspray Clay is it? Beige jar with 2 bars? Last I heard it was just as bad as their retail clay. :p



Personally I'd try to find the red Clay Magic instead if the blue doesn't work.
 
I can confirm that paint-overspray takes time and patience to remove.

With my Z18 it took quite alot of passes to get it out

I didn't use real pressure on it , just went over and over the spot untill it was gone.
