Clay and Wax removal.

Hello again ! , I tried searching in the forum if clay removes wax as soon as possible but couldn't find anything. The problem is my car sleeps everyday outside so I am trying to keep it protected all the time using a QD spray. But I know that after washing a couple of times I might want to give it a good clay and another wash on top of it. My question is , how many clays can a paint take(Single Stage Paint) before I need to reapply the sealant/wax??

thanks :bounce

Answers & Counter questions :

1- Clay WILL remove wax since it is basically a polish in a play-doh like form and it is moderately abrasive...

2- Why would you want to clay if you are not to polish, seal and wax ? I do not believe you need it so frequently...

3- QD is not exactly a protectant. It is a lubricant for quick touchups and cleaning... You do not have to worry about removing it since it has no layering properties whatsoever...

4- Well if you see color the clay (pigment coming onto it.) you' d best keep thenumber as low as possible because you will remove paint until you reach bare metal or the primet layer...

IMHO I would consider a good primer and sealant combo like the klasse twins or Jeffs Werkstatt Prime and Acrylic Jett. These combos will give you longer lasting protection so you don't have to keep worrying about the wax situation. Just an idea! :buffing:

Yes pretty much im looking for products that are stronger and more resistant to contaminants, UV etc, I will look into the Klasse twins.

Depends on how you clay and the condition of your LSP/wax. I spot-clay at every wash and it does *not* have an appreciable effect on my wax. But I use very mild clay for this (sonus green) and I do it very gently. Been claying my LSPs witout stripping them since detailing clay came out in the early '90s, but it's a lot easier to do with the Sonus green.

Claying aggressively *will* strip LSP though, and IMO most people clay sorta aggressively.
