clay after PP??

Hi all,
after reading many of the threads I'm planning on removing the wax and go after the water spots with some poorboys products.

this was going to be the routine:
wash
clay
wash
PP
ssr1
ex-p (2x)
p21S

but I have read that clay won't take off the wax, and I don't want to start another "dawn debate" (i'll just opt to keep it in the kitchen).
So would it alright to use pp then clay,and wash again?

and does the routine seem right??

Your routine (as listed above) looks fine; don't quite know what you mean by "PP then clay".

Clay first. After washing of course.
 
I see no need to use PP and then clay. If you are going to use abrasive the to remove paint defects, the wax will be removed by the abrasives. You could follow the abarasive with PP as glaze type product.

The only time I would use PP before claying is if there were many years of oxidation or contamination built up on the surface. In that case, it may be adviseable to cut through some of that grime before claying. In most other cases, I would clay first then follow with PP and SSR1. Either PP or SSR1 will take care of removing an old layer of wax.

edschwab is right.

Clay first, follow this by the abrasive (SSR1, 2, 2.5, or 3 depending on the severity of the marring) and THEN use the PP.

The SSR's are abrasive (polish) and will remove anything they contact; i.e. the PP.

Using the clay as a first step removes the contaminents (sp?), which could cause additional marring if the are being dragged around with the polish.

Anyway: Clay first, SSR second, PP third (again washing before and after the clay)
 
Poorboy's products are very versatile. Therefore, it is a personal choice to use the SSRs before PP or the other way around. I like to use PP before the SSRs to clean off the chemical contaminants. Then, I feel that I am better able to assess the need for an abrasive. Whichever method you choose to use, understand that the last product used before waxing or sealing will influence the overall look of the vehicle. SSR1 is rich and glossy, PP is clear and reflective, while PwC is bright and shimmering.

Good point awd'. I guess I was leaning more in the direction of the importance of 'claying' as the first step. PP followed by SSR makes sense for the conditions you mention.

I still wouldn't follow PP with clay tho - don't you agree?

The only time I would use PP before clay is if there were years of grime built up on the finish. In most cases I would wash, clay, and re-wash first before moving on to either the SSRs or PP.
