classic charging sales tax

....my programmer said...I'd have to have set shipping charges per item or per $ amount....

Your programmer was lying. All you would have to set up a database with all the weights of all your items. A little initial work but doable. (Disclaimer: I'm not a programmer so I could be wrong)

I agree CMA's shipping is 2x what it should be on most items. This is nothing more than a "junk" fee that increases profits. Granted you get great service with CMA and they have the best selection; but that is already included in their prices. I could see if they were a discount chain, but everytime I try to find a product elsewhere for cheaper I can, assuming I can find it.

I don't think people realize what it costs to actually run a business. People (myself included) got spoiled by the internet shopping heyday of 1998-2000 when online stores were popping up all over the place and profits were non-existent. Free shipping was common along with outrageously low prices. A ton of companies went out of business since losing money wasn't popular with shareholders.

Now companies have two choices, they can raise prices or charge for shipping. If you charge a reasonable flat rate like $8.00, people complain when they buy a $10.00 item and pay an additional 80% in shipping. But, these people don't complain when they order 20 something pounds worth of stuff and pay the same $8.00.

They also don't realize how automated the purchase system is. Like Steve said, programs are mostly written for shipping based on dollar amount or number of items.

Sorry for the rant...

Iconoclast..it may be very well possible...I am also not a computer programmer:lol: ...but it might be a very costly endeavor...I know paypal won't let you do that type of program..they have a set program that you add to your site....That's why I don't have it up on my site..even though I have an account with them...

I sell RX7 parts. I have a pulley thats a hot seller.

Here is how shipping pans out for that item:

Padded Envelope: .50

Postage: 4.35 USPS Priority

Paypal fees: 1.20

Then figure time and gas spent driving to the Post Office. For Canadian orders I have to fill out the customs label also. So it does get procey
