i just went to order some products - clasic added an outrageous s/h charge and sales tax to the order so i canceled it - over 20% of the cost of he products - the s.h alone was $14 on a order of 4 items! klasse, stoner, eiman fabric tire gel - that is rediculous imo - add 7% sales tax and i need to find another sorce.

If you live in Florida then they have to charge sales tax. That is the way it is on most sites. I would suggest finding a source outside of Florida if you want to avoid sales tax.

Its not going to be very long that sales over the internet even across state lines will be taxed. Almost every state in the Union is working on legeslation to get their piece of the pie. It is going to make things very hard on internet retailers.

CMA probably uses weight based shipping. You can't fault them for what shipping costs. You can bet they didn't just pull that number out of thin air.

If you live in Florida they have to charge you sales tax, it's the law. What do you expect them to do, brake the law?

You mean 'break' the law. Unless the law is going too fast and you are trying to slow it down, of course. :p lol Just pullin yer chain, Brad. :D

There's a lot of interesting chatter on how this is going to take place (Internet shopping taxes). But no matter how it unfolds, being a Floridian and having CMA based here means you're going to pay tax.

I used to work for a company in New Hampshire (which has no sales tax) and they never "collected" sales taxes...but the current law is actually deeper for most states. Even if the company does not charge/collect a sales tax, by law you are expected to report and pay it for your locality. That part is not enforced anyplace that I know of, but...

In all honesty, if there is going to be an Internet tax, it had better come from the federal level and be a flat tax that is either disbursed to the individual states or kept at the federal level.

I'm sure the legal battles will continue for years to come.

I've shipped things to Canada before. The tarriff/duty/tax or whatever it is you get charged just to accept the package is ridiculous too. I had a package sent to a friend in Toronto that just had a pair of Klasse in it and they charged him $15 bucks just to pick it up when it arrived. That's why I just pack it in my suitcase when I go up there. ;)

not to hijack your thread, but CMA should migrate to shipping via weight/location based. When I buy the gallon EF items, shipping ain't that bad but other than that, I hate forking over shipping prices of small expensive items that add up to X amount but the shipping rates are like 2X more than what it should be.....

Hey Cleaningfreak,

Go west. There is no sales tax in Alberta just the dreaded GST.

Seriously though, I always make a point of having things shipped by USPS because the courier companies charge way too much to act as custom broker. Fedex charges $20 for this privilage and if it goes USPS then Canada Post clears it and it costs about $5. the downside is that it takes a lot longer.

Actually, I've had the opposite experience. USPS was faster than UPS, by 2 days, shipping to Canada from Florida (Premiumautocare to me in Vancouver). Did get dinged for taxes and $5 for handling. But if the overall value is marked down (I think the limit is $20) and it's marked as a gift, then there is no tax, and no service charge. My large order of MF's from JT was tax and handling free because he marked the value as $18 or something, while my Pakshak cost me handling because the value was marked as $24 US.

Hmmm, that's interesting. I hadn't considered the tax implications of labeling the package "Gift" before.

Thanks, I'll remember this the next time I order something.

You should order from Europe...

well - i forgot they were in fl so i understand the tax - the s/h is still 2-3x what it should cost by ground residential transport - ups - plus, in looking for alternatives i found a far better source from klassee direct - got the large liter sizes - some of the other stoner stuff - twice the weight of what i was getting from classic and the total shipping was $8 instead of $14 - what bothered me was that the s/h/tax was over 20% of the total order - that is unacceptable - http://www.klassedirect.com/ if you look at the daily specials it is hard to beat the pricing and i love their boldly stating they only pass along actual shipping costs -

bottom line - it was enough saved to buy the large sized (double) products for the same costs to me - hpe this helps you all out

I think it was the $14 in S/H plus the tax that upset him. If you look at their Shipping Page they charge not by weight, but by dollar amount. Throw the unavoidable tax on that and it does get expspenive for a Florida resident.

As someone who does a lot of shipping ...even to Europe;) , the shipping is high to start and then as you add more to the order the shipping rises much slower..the initial hit..like getting into a taxi is burden if the order is small...For instance I sent one $15 bottle to Texas from NY..it was $8 in shipping ..more than 50% of the product..rediculous yes, but i sent an order very close to the same area and the order was over $100 and the shipping was $14....:dunno

As far as sales tax goes..don't mess with them:nono

Also, remember that David only charges actually shipping costs for items purchased thru Autopia Car Care. And I think he handles some of these items.

CMA's shipping is outrageous. I called them a couple of times and they reduced it by half but that was still to much. I have set up an order with them many times and then canceled after I saw the shipping. They charge by $ ordered which is ridiculous. I orders like 6 PC pads and some MF stuff and shipping was like 18 dollars. For stuff that didn;t even weigh a pound. UPS on the order is like 2 dollars and what can a cheesy used box cost. Plus they put peanuts in the box to make sure the MF towels didn;t break. I usually now do a 75 dollar order and call the geeky person and they ship for free. Premium does too if you call them. I buy as little as possible now from CMA because of their outrageous shipping charges.

rleven ...I agree charging by $ is not going to work out for everyone....

I encountered this problem too..if you want to be able to order directly on line....my programmer said...I'd have to have set shipping charges per item or per $ amount....at that point I realized that i would run into the same problem as you are unhappy about...shipping mf ...it has no weight per say and the cost is relatively high.

I'm not saying CMA is right or wrong...just sharing my perspective:wavey
