Civic vs. Fit vs. Mazda3i vs. new Sentra...

I, too have the 06 civic. the coupe (2 dr) and i've had it for about 5 months now and put a good 13,000 KM on it.

the improvements made on the 06 civic compared to all the others is unbelievable with the 2 tier dash and its digital readings. I have been getting 550 - 600 KM on it with one tank, and with gas prices now... its usually around 28 - 30$ per tank.

but, i must say that you get what you pay for, and unfortunately the civic is not made perfect nor does it go through a bunch of tests to make sure that the car is rattle free, or parts are not in place properly or there are problems with the engine in some cases (not mine though).

it is a reliable car, like all civics before it. the only drawback is that it has the SOHC VTEC engine unless you get the Si which has the DOHC VTEC engine with 197 HP compared to the 140 HP.

all in all, the civic is nontheless a reliable gas saving car that looks good now.

I agree with this completely. While the engine might last forever, the rest of the car wont. I've previously owned a 01 Civic and now my brother has an 07 Civic. Great cars that have great reliability, gas mileage and re-sale value. +1 for a Civic!

I wouldn't consider a VW. Historically, they are not nearly as reliable as some other manuf. Too many electrical problems!

That Mazda 3 hatch in one of the other threads is nice though!

My new Car and Driver just did a comparo on a bunch of the new small cars. The Rabbit ended up on top, but of course, they don't have to live with it (speaking of the historical problems VWs seem to have).

I think the Mazda 3 finished second, the Civic third. It's a good read and worth the price of the mag just to get some other feedback.

was curious... is mazda owned by ford?

Yes, partially. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it is about a 60% stake?

I do most of their engines are still Mazda, though. I think the one in the 6 was a Ford engine though, ouch.

Again, someone correct me if I'm wrong... my Mazda facts aren't up to par

it is partially owned by ford. I think that the 3 had some parts from a Volvo (also ford) :xyxthumbs

My uncle's looking for a reliable fuel-sipper as a daily commuter car. Which would you choose out of these and why?

I personally would go with the Mazda3i. I love their current designs and the interior feels European. Gas mileage is a little worse than the others, but it makes up for it in looks(my .02)... ;)

What say you? He's planning on purchasing it and keeping it for at least 10 years...psst...he also keeps a Corvette in the garage for the weekend :D

ditto on the mazda 3. Doesnt feel like a prison compared to the fit, and the base civic just is well.... :bestwish

The mazda3 like stated has a nice interior and quality inside, and look very nice :) Plus it is a peppy little car!

He ended up with a Honda Civic LX Coupe 5spd.

I really like it, but I still have a sweet spot for the 3....

The Civic is peppy enough, especially for that fuel economy....I personally like the dashboard, but IMO the 3 interior looks much more expensive....

It's the dark grey color....will look good after some sealant:)

After much speculation I bought my GF the Mazda 3 Loaded minus the leather.

The civic Pales in comparison.... The 3 really does everything MUCH MUCH better.... it drives and brakes very similar to my 99 BMW 328is, the mazda only loses out on fuel economy (not even noticeable though)

I should let you guys know that I started the search DEAD SET on the civic... (having won car of the year and such).... but by the time we were done the

-4 wheel disc brakes w/ EBD

-2.3 L 160 Hp engine

-17" tires

-Great stereo

-Euro inspired looks

...Took the prize!...

The braking on the 3 is actually not "good-for-its-price" Its plain GOOD!!
