Civic vs. Fit vs. Mazda3i vs. new Sentra...

My uncle's looking for a reliable fuel-sipper as a daily commuter car. Which would you choose out of these and why?

I personally would go with the Mazda3i. I love their current designs and the interior feels European. Gas mileage is a little worse than the others, but it makes up for it in looks(my .02)... ;)

What say you? He's planning on purchasing it and keeping it for at least 10 years...psst...he also keeps a Corvette in the garage for the weekend :D

I would get a Honda Civic EX. I don't really need a new car and I like them enough to go buy one. I test drove an EX about a months ago. The interior was very nice, acceleration more than acceptable w/ the standard transmission, and the ride was smooth. Gas mileage is 40/gal which can't be beat, and Honda reliablity is unparalleled.

I like the Mazda 3 too, but If iwere to buy a Mazda, I'd buy the speed 6.

civic! :up :2thumbs:

Add another for the Civic. He'll also really like you when he decided to sell it at slightly less than what he paid for it.

ain't that the truth! i can sell mine now and make a profit of $6000 if i wanted too...

Personally I love the VW TDI series (Jetta, Beetle, Rabbit) gives you just as good of gas mileage as the civic. And a lets face it diesels last forever.

I also love the TDIs, but he would only consider the upcoming Rabbit TDI. He doesn't like the Jetta.

If the Rabbit TDI were out currently, I might seriously consider trading in MY car for one. The new diesel VW has coming out should be good for 50mpg stock!

I wouldn't consider a VW. Historically, they are not nearly as reliable as some other manuf. Too many electrical problems!

That Mazda 3 hatch in one of the other threads is nice though!

Have both an 05 Civic and 06 Civic and am exceptionally happy with both, although I love the 06 much more than the 05.

In the 8 months I've had the 06 I've put 32,000 miles on it as I have a long commute (2/3 back roads, 1/3 interstate) and it has been very reliable. I consistently get 38 mpg, or about 35 mpg when I run the AC. From a preformance standpoint it has enough HP to satisfy this middle-aged person, the handling is good and tight and it has not developed even a single squeek or rattle. The only drawback, IMO, is there is more wind noise at higher speeds than I had when I commutted with the 05, or my old daily driver which was a 94 Accord. Of course, I don't notice the wind noise with the stereo blasting.

Interior is comfortable and fairly roomy considering it's a small car. The instruments and dash are well laid out and very accessible. Oil changes for me have been about every 9,000 miles as the onboard computer determines oil life based on actual driving style, conditions, etc.

My 06 is the dark Royal Blue Pearl Metallic which looks really good all dolled up and dressed in WG or BF.

What kind of commuting does he do?

If it's alot of city then the Fit would get an edge, but for the minor differences in price, I'd go with the Civic. I also like the 3. So drive them both and I'm willing to bet you could get a better deal with the 3 since it's not quite as popular. I'd be weary of the Nissan, it's a first year model and Nissan really isn't in the same league as far as reliability.

I agree on the EX. Very nice car with awesome gas millage. Better than the Fit as far as gas goes.

90% highway, so the Civic does get the edge in gas mileage...I guess I should tell him to narrow it down between the Civic and the 3, see which one he likes better...

And docker, do you have any pics of that color 'all dolled up'?? :woot:

He's pretty much narrowed it down between the Mazda3 and the Civic.

He thinks the 3 is more fun with the 5spd. than a Civic LX with a stick...

The extra few MPG and Honda's resale could be the deciding factor though...

I told him to get the color black whatever he does decide, and let me detail it for $$ :)
