This is a before pic of a 95 civic with severe swirls that i attempted to take out..one more before and an after that i need advice on to come...

before 2

here is another shot of the swirls before..i havent finished the car just did the trunk completely because i could see i was going to be dissapointed..after next...

after...

This is the trunk after..

-2 passes with SSR 2.5 with PC, various speeds, even went up to 6 on second pass...with white LC curved edge pad
-1 pass with Color X with White LC pad
on 3.5
-1 application of NXT by hand

reduction in severity, and looks awesome in the shade..but i want it to look good in the sun...I plan on buying a compounding pad and maybe some clay and trying again on saturday...this is my second time with the pc, 1st was on my white integra so it wasnt a big deal..this is a friends car that he just bought...

2 questions...-should i get the compounding pad and try again? and will an 8 inch megs pad work on my 6 inch backing plate? or should i go wit the 6 inch? (read that might not be safe on the PC tips article on bettercarecare.com)...also is the lack of clay maybe the problem? thanks for any help and atleast taking the time to read this...

i think what you have to do is change pads, and try a more abrasive pad. the white pad is the polishing pad, correct? try going with the yellow cutting pad with ssr 2.5.

I would first try what Zesty suggested. If does not work, I would try a more agressive product.

What previous detailing or care has the car received in the past?

After readinga few recent threads on the PC and swirlsI knew not to expect a miracle, but i expected a little more than i got..and a rotary is out of the question for me..
My main concern or reason for asking for help is that i'm afraid if i go to a cutting pad with the ssr 2.5, especially on the spots i already did 2 passes of ssr, i might end up taking off too much paint and making it worse. has this happened to anyone before after trying for too long with a PC and aggressive pads/products?
or will i be ok? the car has a clear coat, i had no black on my pads from the hood or (where i did the most work), but on the top of the car i did, i wonder if that was just caked in dirt?

Edschwab-the car was just bought a few days ago by a friend of mine, so i dont know its past detailing, but it looks like it was a regular at the gas station "weed whacker" car washes.

You can't take off a ton of clear with a PC unless you use the sanding disk. SSR2.5 with a yellow pad is the next logical step. You may have to follow up with SSR 2.5 on a polishing pad in case you get some marring. Those swirls will be tough to tackle with a PC, BUt, you can get a good chunk of them out.

Claying would have no effect on the swirls.

With a PC and SSR2.5 I doubt you would do ALOT of damage honestly. From the looks of it, removing paint is the only way with a rotary. Cutting pad would help.

THe pictures distort alot so I might be pretty off.
