Circuit City to shut down

I read one article that said they have a good internet sales business so someone may show up to buy part of the business and get rid of the stores.

I dunno... how do you compete with Amazon for online electronics? That's a tough one.

I just a purchsed a new HDTV. I bought through a small local company that also services what they sell. I may have paid a little more than I wopuld have if I bought it a a "big box" store, but the satisfaction of actually dealing with people who know their products made it worth it.

Helped the mother in-law purchase a new Lenovo laptop at CC while we were in Sarasota over Xmas. The technical savvy of the salespeople there is hit or miss. I have been in some stores where they know their stuff but the guy that helped us in Sarasota was clueless.

Fortunately I never go into a big purchase without doing my homework beforehand so we pretty much knew what we were looking for going in...

Amazon sells detailing products too. As you know the electronics and detailing markets are large so no on seller is going to corner the market enough so other sellers cannot also make a nice profit.

I personally rarely buy from Amazon since I can often buy directly from the seller directly at a better price and get better customer service (return to store, etc).

I could see the beggining of the end of CC years ago when they performed their 1st round of "re-organization" by elliminating all of the people that actually made money and had a clue about the products they were selling. It was actually awful. There was a surprise meeting that was mandatory. Everyone was grouped together in the install bay of the car audio department and they called people one by one, 2 managers @ a time - took you into a sales office and told you that your position was elliminted, explained severance,etc... What made it so wrong was that they escorted you through the warehouse by another manager and then opened the door and that was the end of it all, treated you like you were a criminal of sorts.... I had spent at least 4 years with them and was bad how they treated you when they told you not to come back.

After that I could see that things were not going well as the quality of the products was declining and department were loosing staff and more importantly, knowledgeable staff..

Went by the local store today and they didn't have any types of deals what so ever. Regular price with a 10% discount or so. :2thumbs: Looks like they haven't realized they had filed bankruptcy

I am sure the head management at CC, past and present, will be in a lot better shape than the people affected (past, present) but that is what a somewhat free market is all about.

Brandsmart will kill Best Buy. It's only a matter of time before they expand enough. Every time they've opened a store near a Best Buy, the Best Buy has been on the losing end.

Case in point, when they first opened the Best Buy on Palm Beach Lakes, it was a madhouse. It was seriously crazy to go there, always packed and stuff. Then they opened a Brandsmart USA right behind it. That Best Buy is still there, but they're almost always deserted.
