I personally bought a 46 Chevy Stylemaster a couple of months ago. The car needs alot of work. I just realized when I was washing it the other day that its COVERED IN CHROME. I have metal polish, but that's the end of the story. Never had a car literally comprised of 1/3 chrome parts. Now all these parts WANT to be polished and I realize,... wow, although they look shiny and they are scratched, swirled and so on... kind of like the paint on the car. Is there anyway to fix this or is it to the chrome shop for me?

you could try super fine steel wool with some metal polish for the bad parts. if its pitted, bubbling or lifting it will have to be re-chromed
 
i would also like to know how to get rid of the scratches and swirl marks in chrome or polished aluminum.



you might want to look into polishes that have multi steps much like paint correction or you might have to get into the polishing rogues and buffing wheels on a drill or air drill and go to town.

multi steps are not a good idea on chrome. the actual stuff that makes chrome shiny will not hold up to being sanded or "cut". i wont get into the process, you can google how chrome works if you want. raw aluminum can be cut with sanding and polishing.
