Chrome Rims - Bad staining

My Rims have what look to me to be stains. They are not pits. They are smooth to the touch. The rims are I believe powder coated clear over the chrome. Has anyone been successful in wet sanding chrome rims. I have tried every wheel polish on this earth, and steel wool and they will not budge. I am assuming that you can sand them being they are cleared, but being a powder coat finish they are really hard. Any advice would be appreciated.

Is this clear coated??? I know you said that.....but you lost at the powered coated part..are they PC and then have cleat over them??

If they are clear coated on chrome....then a good chemical based polish like PB PP would be where I would start...but he said that he used steel wool....and he also used the term...powder coating...so that's what's throwing me...if its bare metal like chrome...and stained...then the chemical polish would be a good choice...it the pics I can see some very minor scratches that's tells me he has used abrasives...but I'm still not clear on the real finish of the rims
 
If they are chrome there is no powdercoat.They do have chrome looking powdercoat but you can tell the difference easily

I've never seen chrome wheels clear-coated. Polished/clearcoated, yes, but not chrome.

If they are clear-coated: Wet sand with 2000, then polish.

If they are chrome: DO NOT WET SAND! Use PB Pro Metal Polish or Mother's Chrome polish.
 
I've not heard of this finish...but wouldn't starting at the Edelbrock web site to see what they suggest for cleaning or polishing be the best start?

I did a search on Edelbrocks Endura Shine and it appears to me a protective clear coating over polished aluminum...as for how hard that is I don't know...but what I said last night a chemical based polish would be the place I would start other than the mfger site
 
:cool: From tha look of those Rims they look pitted, Those Rims are done. You may either have rechromed or replaced.If your lookin 4 that perfect look. :cool: :dcrules
 
I just read this on another forum...its a process but I don't see anything about PC on the metal...that's what was throwing me off
