Chrome polishing - oddity...

So I was polishing some chrome with Megs UC on a LC Yellow pad (with a PC7424XP), and something odd happened



It CHANGED COLOR. It changed from chrome to a slightly golden chrome. Nothing I did seemed to change this, so it seems like it changed color from some chemical change. Any ideas how this could happen, to prevent it in the future?



All I can think of is the heat affecting how it polished out. I've searched on here and google and have never seen mention of this happening.

You could have possibly gone through the chrome. Chrome plating is extremely thin.

you polished through the chrome. Like dsoto87 said. The plating is very thin. it dosen't take much at all to polish through it.

Yup. You went through the plating. It's not a good idea to polish chrome with an abrasive polish. You'll polish the chrome right off as you found out.
