Chrome or Plastic?

How can you tell if something is actual chrome or just plastic with a chrome like finish? I figure all the bumpers will be chrome. But what about some of the grilles and emblems on vehicles? Are they plastic or chrome? Thx.
 
i would guess you could tell just by tapping it with your fingernail. plastic thuds and metal has a sharper sound.
 
I agree with the tap-with-fingernail test :xyxthumbs And yeah, most of it'll be plastic.



I only use very gentle products like AIO and cleaner-waxes on this stuff. The chrome material that's over the plastic is pretty fragile and easily compromised. I've had a lot of it get worn badly from being polished, including the emblems on the Jag :( Once you get it cleaned up (no, don't get aggressive- scratches/etc. won't come out anyhow) I'd give it a lot of layers of something durable; I use KSG.
