Chrome exhausts discolored

I've noticed that the two chrome exhaust pipes on my car are discolored.
Is it from the heat?
Are they burned?
Is it permanent?

I've tried the stuff I have on them but they still look blueish.
Are they permanently damaged?
What should I have done?

Thanks again.

from everything that I have seen once they turn blue like that they are stained from heat...You might try some 0000 Steel wool and see if that helps but I've not found anything that will remove the blue....I've seen this on motorcycles pipes up by the heads allot....nothing that I've ever done has remove it

There are some products designed to remove it, like Greg mentioned. Theres another called Blue Away or something along those lines which may be found at a motorcycle shop. I've tried PB Pro Polish and other polishes on blued pipes and nothing seemed to do any good to them. FWIW, it is caused by heat, so there wasn't much that you could have done. Try to find one of those polishes or live with it I guess.
