Chrome...can it be polished?

first let me say that i am quite sure there is no way on earth to do this. But i'm asking because if there IS a way it wouldn't be the first time something i thought was impossible turned out to be possible after all. I have a bike with a lot of chrome. All of it has what amounts the same thing as the swirls you see in paint....ultra fine scratches. I have tried tons of products from towels and polished that range from pretty abrasive to the mildest abrasiveness. But anything that was abrasive enough to change the chrome in any way only added to the damage, and anything on the other end of the spectrum does nothing.

Again, i know the answer is no, but with as much chrome as i have on the bike and as much as it bothers me i guess i'm fishing for a miracle.

just be careful what you use, there are some polishes designed for chrome. remember chrome is plated on to the metal so it has thickness like paint (but usually thicker).

Noting that I haven't gotten around to trying the stuff I got from Caswell's, I've worn chrome away, right down to the underlying layers of plating, and never did get the (seemingly minor) marring out of it. Unfortunately, this is on the Jag, which came with dealer-installed scratches in all its chrome and stainless trim

ive used a 'cape cod cloth' on plated jewelry, also worked really well on chrome trim on my mercedes
