Chime in About Optimum Polish

I have a large pad selection and all I use now is the Optimum Polish and Compound. For me there is really nothing better. I use it with my Cyclo and rotary. The new green Cyclo pads work great with the Polish.

This is certainly a new personal best on one of my silver cars. The picture doesn't begin to do justice. I picked up a bottle of the OP and the OCW...fantastic results. I only polished the nose of the Jetta but did mist the entire vehicle with the OCW. Silver is tough but this product delivered eye-pleasing results, clearly superior to anything else i've tried on silver.

I applied the OP with the PC and had decent results. I only spent about 10 minutes on it. The spray wax was the crowning achievement.

the silver has a clean and crisp appearance. It looks wonderful in low light. I promised myself I wouldn't buy any more products, but this was certainly $$ well-spent.

Tom-the Jetta looks great! Very wet looking

Optimum Polish and Car Wax have greatly exceeded my expectations.

How is there compound and what is it technically used for? It sounds very abrasive. Its the last polish i want to add to my collection and if the compound is worth purchasing I would like to purchase the polish and compound together. Chris

When coupled with an orange pad, does it leave micro marring/hazing like DACP if it isnt worked long enough?

I tried it out again on a white hood, i didnt like it, i just cant tell when its "done"..... :wall

Hello,

In a nutshell the Compound picks up where the Polish leaves off, which is around the 1200 sanding grit mark. In other words if the OCP and a cutting pad does not remove or correct the paint imperfection then go to the OCC and a mild polishing pad to start. If that still doesn't do the trick then try a cutting pad and the OCC.

The OCC does not cut as fast as say, Powergloss, but it will level paint to almost the same degree. Usually if OCC doesn't do the trick then I may give the PG a shot. This is not a strike against the OCC because it was designed with body shops and car manufacturers in mind first, detailers second, much like the Menzerna line. So while the OCC will not cut as fast as PG it will finish out with less swirls/marring and little to no dust which equates to faster finish out and easy clean up.

On silver or light colored cars it could probably finish out the car in one step and then seal it, on dark colors I recommend and extra polishing step with the OCP.

Since the working time of OCP is so long then one can't really rely on a "visual" marker as to it being ready for removal. My method of use is to buff an area for twice the time I would with any of my other polishes. So if I used IP for 3 minutes on a panel then I would use the OCP for 6 to 8 minutes.

On a silver (or light colored) car with mild imperfections the OCP and an orange pad should be your one and only step. On dark colors the marring will be more noticable but even that is very mild and perhaps noticed only by the overly anal :D

Just use it some more and "empty your cup" so to speak in regards to other polishes you have used in the past. Just because a great many folks use and love the Optimum line doesn't mean that everyone will use and love it so use what best suits your tastes and what gives you, personally, the best results.

Hope that helps,

Anthony

PS - and to think the ridicule and name calling :furious: I suffered through :bawling: and dealt with when I introduced Optimum products to you all....now look at you people :LOLOL

Anthony, do you use a PC, Rotary or Cyclo most of the time when working with OCP or OCC?

Is the 6 to 8 minute figure you threw out close to the time you would use per panel (i.e. 2' X 2') or was that just an arbitrary number you were throwing out? Do you usually make a mimimum number of passes over a surface before further evaluation when working with OCP or OCC? I'm just trying to get a better handle on learning how to best use this product when I try it out in the coming weeks.

Mainly the rotary and then the Cyclo.

6 to 8 minutes is just a round about number and I usually do numerous passes per panel until I feel that I have accomplished what I set out to do.

After some time you will also develop a "feel" for when to quit.

Anthony, I am not sure who ridiculed you about OPT, but I have always valued your opinion about any technique or product. In fact, I tried OPT car wax very soon after I read your first review on detail city. I believe your experience and credentials speak for itself. It is a shame some choose to discount a person who is willing to share as many detailing tips as you do. I apologize for the rant, but I just want you to realize that us less experienced detailers value your professional opinion.

I totally agree. I consider Anthony to be a pillar of the community here and always value his commentary. I vaguely recall that Optimum discussion a while back - - Personally, I am as skeptical as everybody else but force myself not to criticize when I have no direct experience. We can all share and benefit from each others' experiences.

I hope the Optimum wax displays great longevity since that's my#1 criteria when ranking products. If it's as good as Scott and Anthony report, I'm gonna declare the stuff a "miracle product" :D

Thanks.

OCP is the first vegetarian polish!!! There is NO meat in it!!! Believe me! I read it on the label...

"...wiping it with a microfiber towel for a steak-free perfect finish."

A non-greasy look!

:lol :LOLOL :grinno: :rofl
