Chevy Equinox - Interior Only

Did a quickie for a co-worker today ... he only wanted the interior done on his wife's Chevy Equinox. He said "This one will be a breeze for you, not bad at all." Well, I've definately seen worse but it wasn't exactly a "breeze" either.



These new vehicles have an upholstery fabric that is very porous and difficult to clean. I hate them. What's everybody else using to clean these types of interiors?



This Chevy had a very "cheap" look and feel to it IMO.



I also couldn't get the matts completely clean, but I think they're a lot better.



Certainly not perfect, but much improved overall.



Vacuum

303 Spot Remover on stains.

Matrix Grand Slam TLC on carpets, agitate w/nylon brush. Let dwell 10 minutes.

Matrix All Fiber Rinse using spotter extractor

Sonus All-in-One Cleaner 5:1 on seats and all interior plastic

Steam cleaned seats with MF over steamer head.

Steam cleaned all nooks/crannies.

PB's Natural Look all interior plastic/rubber seals.

Invisible Glass

It took me about 4-5 hours, but I was taking my time not really jumping on it. I tend to be slow, but I try to be thorough. How long should it have taken?



I forgot to mention, I did apply CG's New Car Scent (which really smells like baby powder, not a new car).

I have a Q on the seats that had stains on them, what did you use/process? I am used to extracting carpets and what not, but have never dealt with a seat that has had a stain. Did you spray spot remover, agitate, then extract the seat?

Great Job. Regarding the pourous fabrics, I have been using the Duragloss foaming interior cleaner a lot lately. It is nice on lighter colored upholstery, as well as headliners, because the foam tends to "extract" the dirt, versus soaking into it and possibly leaving water spots.



Regarding mats, I do a 3:1 APC / water mix, with a dash of Woolite. I vacuum the mats, spray it liberally with the mixture, and let it dwell. I then brush the mixture around on the mats, and let it dwell a little bit longer. I then hose the mats with the water hose to rinse out the APC/Water/Woolite mixture, then extract with my shopvac, and let them dry in the sun.

How do remove the foam/dirt residue? MF? Vacuum? Extract?

The instructions say to spray, agitate with an interior brush (not a towel), then blot dry with a clean towel. I'll use a clean terry or MF...whatever is within reach.

I have thought of offering to change my customers cabin air filters (for a fee) and use Klima in the vents or somthing. I just did my car and it was amazing how fresh the air is now. I just wondered what everyone else is doing for odor in interiors or if they only do it as an upsale.

Right, it takes until I'm done. :woot2: It's a weekend thing for me, I'm not high volume so I'm not very "tuned-in" to how long I spend.

I usually just include a few shots of some interior scent as part of my interior detail (CG's New Car, Ozium New Car, whatever I have at the time, etc.). I find a thorough interior cleaning in and of itself usually drastically improves how the interior air smells.

You are 100% correct, I should have expect that :grinno:



Truth is, it wasn't as bad as many I have seen. I just get a kick out people's comments some times.



Don't forget this one ....



"It's pretty clean actually, just usual dirt. It doesn't really need a full detail. There might just be a little sand and stuff because we just got back from camping a week at the beach with my 4 kids. We only want it spiffied up because we're having guest next week"

Right. "Just needs a couple of spots on the carpet cleaned and a little wax."



I remember ballparking a quote for a lady one time and giving her the higher of the estimate range when I finally saw that it was trashed (that was the "there's a little dog hair" one). She started flipping out like Sybil might and proceeded with the women's self-defense "No! No! No!". She thought $160 for a trashed volvo wagon was taking her for a ride.
