Chevrolet Camaro Paint

Hi,



I imported a 2000 Camaro SS to the UK a few years ago. I keep the car fairly well kept, although it does have some swirl marks. It also has a few stone chips on the hood, which need to be fixed.



Anyway, I plan on using a PC to remove the swirl marks, but wondered if anyone here knows if the clearcoat on Chevy's is hard or soft? Any thoughts on choices of pad & compound / polish?

I agree with Danase on this. EVERY Chevrolet automobile I detail has clearcoat that is hard as a friggin rock. Last week I did an 07 Chevrolet Silverado that was white with just the slightest bit of swirls and it took my mix of 75% OC 25% OPS to get about 95% of them out. My girlfriend's car is a 2000 White Cavalier and I went over each panel 3 times with OC and a LC light cutting pad and it hardly touched the ****. Ive gotta go back and tackle it with some SSR3:buffing: as soon as i'm out of class for summer. I cant even imagine detailing my GFs mom's Buick Rendezvous, which is also obviously GM. I believe its an 04 and has seen practically nothing but washes at the local Tender Touchs around the area, but still has just the tiniest trace of swirls in the paint, even under halogens, so I know its going to have to be the hardest clear ive been in contact with
 
Yeah, my parents Buikc is the same way too.



Try using a chemical polish instead of an abrasive on the GM paint.
 
The SS hood is painted at a different location than the rest of the car-many have complained that the paint quality sucks. It seems to me that the rear fenders are the hardest and that the plastic panels are a bit softer.

I'll be having a go at PC'ing it in a few weeks.... just about to purcahse the polish and pads etc.



Any suggestions on what to use?
