I'm just curious if anyone uses a microfiber towel as a wash mit.Microfiber towels are supposed to clean, so I would think it would be great as a wash mit.
The last time I washed my car I used a 16"x24" microfiber towel instead of the MF mitt that I have been using. I think I may be a convert - it gives much better "feel" for the surface!
i also prefer the MF towel over the chenille cotton mitt. my new viking chenille cotton mitt didn't pass the cd test and it's also harder to get the dirt out of it.
I use a thick pile MF towel when I use QEW but I use Fieldcrest 100% cotton towel when I use regular car wash Z7. Don't ask me why I do it differently because even I don't know.
The problem with using microfiber towels is they hold a lot less water so you will find yourself dipping in the bucket more often. I have not had any problems with the wool or cotton chenille mits and they are priced right at less than $20 for four.
Some people have complained about MF mitts' problem with retaining dirt and debris. Given the nature of MF, I'm not surprised. I prefer real sheepskin washmitts because they're easy to get, not too expensive, and you can "fluff" out dirt and debris into the bucket easier than with MF or chenille. I'd buy this in person though because quality can vary.
MF might be a good material to clean countertops and buff off wax/polish residues because of the grabbiness of MF fibers, but that's not the same way you clean dirt off paint. Mitts are basically for carrying the soapy water and gently loosening the dirt so they can be emulsified in the soap. At least, I think...

Er... yes you're right. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I (personally) don't think the cleaning power of MF is something that lends itself well for cleaning using car shampoo. MF might be good because it's super-fine and won't scratch, but I think the way MF grabs and holds dirt isn't an advantage when washing. This would be an advantage for buffing and QDing though, because you are trying to grab and hold the dirt in the towel.
I'm not an expert on this and this is just my arm-waving ideas/opinions. I'm getting that distinct "sliding into the pit I've dug" feeling..... :doh
My chenille mit from cma passes the cd test. My sheepskin mit scratches. The sheepskin was bought at auto zone, so it may be a cheapo. I have not tried MF wash cloths yet.
